Sports and Rec Management Paper

This course will introduce students to the fundamental aspects of sport and recreation management, with a special focus on the history of sport and recreation governance, organizations and education, and the impact of sport and recreation on economics. Students will explore philosophy as it relates to the value of sport and recreation (outcomes management) and explore the formulation of personal & professional goals. An important outcome of this course is to have students recognize the influence of sport and recreation management upon the basic quality of the sport experience and its role and value in society.

I decided to take this Sports and Rec Management course because coming in as an undecided freshman, I had an interest in making the sports management field my major. During the course we were assigned a topic and were told to set up an interview with someone in the field of the topic you were given. After the interview you were to write a paper using what you learned in the interview as well as create a presentation. The topic I was given was venues, arenas, and stadiums. The interview, which was the first thing I did for this project, was the most important part. I am still not sure if sports and rec management is the major for me, however reaching out to someone in the field is very important for creating a network. Having connections is something that is very important and can become beneficial after graduation. After the interview the rest of the project came easy. I was able to finish the paper and create a good presentation.
