Integrating Ideas

Integrating Ideas

In English Composition I was able to learn how to connect to pieces of writing in an intellectual and proper way. Not only was I able to include two pieces of work in the same essay but I was able to use them in the same essay and show how they support or contradict each other. In my Project 2 essay I show my ability to integrate ideas from two different works by showing what the UNE handbook thinks about problem solving and then compare that to what Ungar thinks. Ungar believes that critical thinking is very important, so in this case the two works agree, and Ungar would agree with the way our classes are taught.

Example of Integrating Ideas: “Each program requires its majors to enroll in a course where students and faculty engage in informed critical and creative thinking about problems confronting professionals in the field”(UNE Handbook, Core Themes). If you are entering a certain field of work it is imperative to have background knowledge in the field. If there are two candidates for a job, the candidate that is more developed will have the edge because he will require less training. More and more companies are recommending students pursue a liberal arts degree. From a 2009 survey for the Association of American Colleges and Universities they found, “89 percent [of companies] said they were looking for more emphasis on “the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing,” and almost as many urged the development of better “critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills”(Ungar, Para 7).
